VIVAnews - Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) do not dare make sure there will be a big flood in 2012, or according to five-year cycle that will happen in Jakarta.
According to the Head of Sub Division of Early Warning Extreme Weather BMKG, Stearns Ribudiyanto, extreme weather is one of the causes of flooding.
But concerned with the cycle of flooding that occurred five years, Stearns did not want to make sure of that. So far, in research BMKG, knows only an indication of an annual cycle of rainfall is high because of the storm Lalina.
Typically, high rainfall occurs from December to February. Changes in rainfall patterns across the region in Jakarta happen because it will enter the rainy season. This year, rainfall in Jakarta do occur above normal, and will run through March and April.
"There is certainly no five-year flood. But starting this year, rainfall levels are above normal," said Stearns, when contacted VIVAnews, Thursday evening, 25 November 2010.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives (DPRD) of DKI Jakarta has agreed to increase the flood prevention budget of Rp40 billion from RAPBD Establishments 2011. The amount to Rp1, 76 trillion from the previous Rp1, 36 trillion.
"The addition of this budget in anticipation of a great flood that is expected to occur in Jakarta in 2012," said Vice Chairman of DPRD DKI, Triwisaksana, in accordance with the results of the budget discussion rapim RAPBD 2011.
The estimate, he continued, is based on the great flood cycles that always happens once every five years in Jakarta. "So the cycle do so. If you do not happen yes alhamdulillah. If it happens we have to get ready," he said.
Addition of the budget will be used for the construction of four embankment in North Jakarta area, and pump house in Cilincing, citizens residing in settlements that are often flooded rob. Four areas to be subscribed rob flooding is the area Marunda, Cilincing, Jalan RE Martadinata, and Kamal Muara.
In addition, in accordance with the results of the budget discussion rapim RAPBD 2011, with a budget of Rp1, 76 trillion, the government of DKI requested address pool of 106 points on arterial and collector road which should be completed in 2011. (Art)
