Primate meat is believed to be asthma medications, although not at all scientifically proven The data issued by ProFauna Indonesia astonishing. So far, at least 200 primates imported from Java to Bali is used for the benefit of public consumption in the tourist island.
The irony, primates were imported to Bali was not the result of captivity, but from the arrest in the wild. Java as a primate langur protected. not escape the victim of consumption.
"Each month more than 200 heads of primate species Javanese langurs from Jember, Banyuwangi Lumajang and brought to Bali to be fine," said Chairman ProFauna Indonesia, Rosek Nursahid, during protests in front of Badjra Sandhi Monument, Renon, Denpasar, Sunday, July 3, 2011 .
Rosek said that currently there are about 200 types of primates around the world. Of that total, 40 species or about 25 percent of whom live in Indonesia. Unfortunately, although rich in primates, but 70 percent of primates in the homeland was threatened with extinction due to habitat destruction and illegal trapping for trade.
Agency for International Conservation (IUCN) indicates as many as 25 species of primates are threatened with extinction since 2000. From the list of 25 species, 4 species of primates of which are primates from Indonesia that is, the Sumatran Orangutan, Siau Tarsier, Slow Loris and Simakubo Java.
Rosek revealed, every year there are thousands of primates from different species were caught from the wild for trade. Some primates is still hunted for meat.
"They are hunted for meat is a Java monkey, long-tailed monkey, Sumatran and Javan Beruk. Meat primate believed to be a drug such as asthma, though not at all scientifically proven," he said.
Seeing these conditions, ProFauna invite the whole community, particularly the Balinese people, to support the conservation of primates by not buying primates. "If they went extinct, the balance of nature is broken. We urge people to care, because people are directly associated with it," he concluded.
In the action that was held about an hour, ProFauna theatrical action. Described man entered in a small cage, while outside the cage watching human primates such fun. That meant that no longer arresting primates, so that their existence can not extinct. (Eh)
